Immersion Workshop @ Old Sage Farm
Mar 23 @ 1:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Welcome to our first Immersion Workshop — Kumihimo!

Our immersion workshops will cost $85.00 (that includes breakfast, lunch and all supplies) but as a special — if you register before 2/16/13, you’ll receive a $20.00 discount!  That means your first class is only $65.00 and includes 3 projects!

Kumihimo is a Japanese braiding technique that was once used to decorate Samurai warriors’ clothing.  The word kumihimo means the coming together of threads—which is exactly what we will be learning in our first Immersion Class. (No needles, no sewing; we promise.)

You will be working with a kumihimo disk, a variety of materials ranging from silk/rayon threads, to cording and metallic materials.  We’ll cover the basic technique to practice and get the feel for working with 8 strands of threads.  Basic kumihimo is simple—left thread up, right thread down and turn the disk counter-clockwise!  That’s it, but it does take a little time and patience to see the end result.  After you’ve finished your practice piece, you’ll make a beaded bracelet and finish it off with cap ends and a clasp.  Your next project will be a necklace using a different mix of threads and cording, which you will finish with cap ends and chain to achieve the desired length.

All materials needed to complete two projects are included in the cost of the class.

As an added bonus, you can try Micro Macrame, too.  Macrame is making a comeback in this new micro version!  This newer version of macrame uses finer cording, small beads and patience…  If you can tie a knot, you’ll be able to make this bracelet project.  You’ll be amazed at your finished project — made from one simple knot.

This will be a full day — we’ll have our usual continental breakfast and lunch but this will be a working lunch.   Once you get the hang of kumihimo, it’s fairly easy and relaxing.  Then, just when you are feeling good, we’ll challenge you with Micro Macrame!  You’ll have all of the supplies that you need, so you may bring your projects home to finish them.

Immersion Workshop ~ Wire Work @ Old Sage Farm
Apr 20 @ 1:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Immersion into Wire Work!

Our immersion workshops will cost $85.00 (that includes breakfast, lunch and all supplies.)

This class in NOT for wire work beginners.  You must know how to do some basic wire work — plain loops, wrapped loops, spirals.  If you have never worked with wire, you should take our Sunday Jewelry Class on April 14 and learn some wire techniques.

We’ll add to your wire work knowledge with some advanced techniques!  Create new frames and settings for your stones or other focal pieces (mokume?).  Learn to weave, spiral and wrap!  Donna will teach you techniques to create a beautiful pendant, a bezel setting and some other fun jewelry!  If you find that you are having some difficulty, Donna has several projects to choose from so you’ll be able to learn new things and take home some jewelry!

All materials are included so that you can create several projects.  You’ll create in silver, non-tarnish and copper wire.  Some projects may incorporate aluminum wire, too.

This will be a full day — we’ll have our usual continental breakfast and lunch but this will be a working lunch.
